CRABS RECORD (32-11)  (18-5) as of Sat Jul 20.
This will be game 44 on the 51 game season and the second game of a three game series in Redding, CA.  Because of a scheduling irregularity only the first two games, last night and tonight, will count in the league standings. Please note: There are only 4 remaining home dates in the regular season.  Then there will be the 3 days of the Far West League Tournament at the downtown Arcata ballpark.

LAST GAME as of Sat Jul 20 –  Crabs  7 Redding 3

Hard luck pitcher Drew Bradshaw was sailing along with a 3-1 lead  when one bad pitch resulted in a home run.  After doing a fine job of  pitching over 6 innings but with an elevated pitch count, Drew was  relieved with the score tied at 3.  Then the Crabs went on to score 4  runs in the top of the 9th inning to post a win for reliever Steve Thompson, who went the last 2 innings plus giving up no runs.   Bradshaw is 2 and 4 on the season despite having a nice 3.08 ERA.

Kyle Moses generally is known for singles and the speed to stretch  some of them into doubles.  So the questions is:  “What did Kyle have  to eat yesterday?  Whatever it was, certainly gave him an extra boost  of power because the centerfielder slammed out two home runs last  night, the second on breaking a 3-3 tie in the top of the 9th.   It’s either the food or the road trip.  Kyle is 7 for 16 on the road for a .438  average.

There appears to be something very agreeable about the second  spot in the batting order as both Caleb Wood and Jeffrey Hendrix  have thieved there.  Wood’s average went from .176 to .324 in the  spot and Hendrix has compiled a .385 batting average in that place in  the order.  Last night Hendrix got a base hit and was robbed of another hit on a line drive.

TIP OF THE HAT as of Sat Jul 20:

Tip of the Hat to Colt 45 third baseman Cody Gappa (a former Crab) who turned in two consecutive defensive gems in the 4th inning.  He speared a hot grounder to start the difficult 5-4-3 double play and came right back on the next hitter to knock down another scorcher and throw to get the inning ending out.Tip of the Hat to second baseman Michael Novak who robbed Jeffrey Hendrix of a base hit, grabbing a line drive headed for right field.
